Hello Forum User--
The Polymath Enterprises Forum and FLORIDAINCOMMON.COM are currently out of service. We apologize for the inconvenience. Apparently the domain hosting service for the sites is now located on the Greek Island of Cyprus. All current bank accounts associated with Polymath Enterprises LLC are located in the United States of America, and have International Purchase restrictions placed on them by default. We are working with the tools on hand to remedy this issue as quickly as possible. We expect the sites to be back up no later than tomorrow, 03-04-2013. Thank you.
So, Cypress is a haven for credit card fraud (allegedly). My bank told me that they could lift the international purchase restriction for 1 full business day, but that the level of liability associated with transactions within Cypress meant that their fraud department could not guarantee the remaining funds in my account. Consequently, I went to PayPal. Funds will be delivered to my PayPal account on March 7 (Thursday), followed shortly by the reinstatement of the websites. A lesson to anyone wishing to work on the internet... it is an highly fluid environment.
ReplyDeleteAll's well that ends well, I suppose. The sites are back up and running. Since it is nearly impossible to pay someone on the island of Cypress with a credit card of any kind issued in the U.S., I had to resort to paypal to get the job done. I'm not entirely thrilled that the site-hosting company I was using last year in California, is now the site-hosting company I use in Cypress, but that's the only way to get the forum and website back online.
ReplyDeleteIt is a valuable lesson that I'm glad I learned in this phase of the creation of FloridaInCommon.com, that I neither own the site, nor the domain. Those services are provided to me by the site-hosting company, and should that company cease to exist, so too would all the information posted on the forum and website. The lesson is to move forward with a thought I had at the beginning of the project (for much the same reasons listed in this comment), namely, to buy/build my own server to house the website and forum with all the bells and whistles, meant to last into posterity.
At present, the forum and site will be available until March, 2014 under the current set of conditions. This exercise serves to illustrate what can be made (and lost) using the suggestions of others (for the benefit of others as well). It is more than possible to host your own website, with your own server or localhost, and that is certainly a value-judgement for anyone wishing to build up a space for their own conversation.
True man of the times, I had a professional credit issue with Cypress. My banks clearly didn't want to fund anything happening there, but I bought a years worth of server space for a cool 4000% of market value! Thanks Paypal, for trading where governments say they wont guarantee you if trade there :)
