One person can do

A few years ago I was lucky enough to take a great vacation with group of good friends. We pooled our resources and rented a million dollar house in Key Largo for a week.

While there, having all agreed that we didn't want to leave, we discussed possibilities in life and the asset of the experiences unique to each of us. That conversation marked the genesis of the project in this post.

This is one of those "what can one person really do?" moments to which I have found an answer. I don't claim it's the best answer (or even a good one), but it is something that one person can do.

I've posted on forums and message boards and chat rooms online since the inception of the platform, and I find the collection of multiple points of view extremely valuable in understanding life's little hairy details. So, building a forum site of my own seemed a natural step in my goal of making more out of life.
Fortunately, the process wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I watched a video tutorial online (for free) about how to download, find hosting and upload a site online (for free), in a easy to follow format that almost anyone who's used to technology can understand.

I think that world problems are too big a subject to try to handle at the moment. There are theorists and operators and idealists, etc. But to make an actual difference, the minutiae is just too great to allow for the degree of certainty required by life... happy life at least. That's why I think it's important to carve out a small piece of the world in order to improve it over time. We all want to save the world, but wanting and doing are very different things.

The forum I created focusses on the piece of the world I will spend my lifetime trying to improve. In the time it takes you're average social media user to create a decent looking profile, I created subforums detailing areas of importance to my project location. All aspects of importance to the development of the state of Florida, government, industry, and people, are each a subject on the site.

Like my previous post on this blog A little bit about Florida; How and Where to Vote, The Polymath Enterprises Forum seeks to start a conversation about the place I live with the people who live here with me. Together, I think we can make a real difference. And, since it was relatively easy to set up, other people all over the state, the country, the world can build one too.

As I said, it may not be thing that leads us to a better world (though it might), it is something one person can do.

Thank you for reading.
