Project One will be to start a voluntary conversation with all those interested in the subject matter. There will be certain guidelines to this conversation, though the complete freedom of speech will be respected. The subject matter will be Florida. The resources for the conversation will be all those interested in participating. The first principle given is that the scientific method be used wherever applicable. The second is that all those who adhere to ideologies beyond what can be proven will be labelled with allusion to their biases.
The value of a real conversation about real events happening in a real place cannot be overstated. Taglines and group rhetoric, along with soundbites and stereotypes have structurally crippled the means of protecting ourselves and managing our safe growth and development into the future. By now it should be apparent that something as simple as Evolution, and the thinking surrounding and informed by it, is losing the debate to secure the future for humanity. Forecasts of things to come by proponets of this or that theory of the development of mankind have not only locked our species on an unsustainable path, but have entrenched a rear-guard that subverts the notion that we may yet save ourselves from the "Armageddon" that hangs so steely in the words of those who wish to control and predict the activities of others. Things have evolved up to this point, and have even left evidence of the evolution of life since we discovered the idea.
Florida has a finite number of people, land, resources and difficulties that, while perhaps too much for one person or small group to realize, process and address, could be positively affected by a large group of sincerely interested individuals using scientific principles, including the establishment of researchable, testable goals. If each cell in my body were able to communicate to my consciousness as a whole, with the goal being consensus on stabilizing my life support apparatus, how much better would my life expectancy become? The theory of this question is something I see as possible for Florida. Though it seems one person is incapable of forming a broad enough opinion as to inform the rest, it is possible for many to agree on certain issues, add them to the ranks of given understanding (with constant updates for validity), and build a more just and stable society.
This is not Utopianism. The need for such a forum for this conversation to take place has been made more and more urgent by the insistance of individuals and groups who presume to speak for the population as a whole, often ignoring sensible and popular points of view. Certainly Authoritarianism could prove the Authority by which it acts in a reasonable manner, rather than absconding with the conversation in a cloud of Fascism by every other name.
Humans are thoroughly predictable. The group that wants their particular way the most gathers their resources, studies the population for biases and strikes with a narrative that not only enlists men and women against their own best interests, but convinces third parties to the affair to voice their opinion in support. It is most fascinating to see the central themes of the history of humanity play out again and again through time, and, like evolution, leave a trail of it's own modification which predicts future outcomes.
The stories of human history are simply stories of what groups of people in certain locations have done to propagate the species, while guiding newer generations largely by the lesson of the mistakes of the past. Project one is an attempt to enter the field of the real conversation by inviting people into a comfortable setting where opinions and truths, foibles and follies, ignorances and lessons learned, may be floated about while being scientifically scrutinized for their authenticity and value for future generations.
This will be a big conversation, with many opinions represented. While the presentation will be important, the functionality over time will tell the tale of it's success. Great care and consideration will go into the arena of discussion. The time this takes, however, will be counted from this post. This is the beginning of a company.
